It’s over as of 10am on May 14th!
The winner:

Congratulations, very married!
Very Married was American, so I’ve had to draw a new winner. I went through a ton of choices, but they were all American, too! Finally we have a Canadian winner:
“Pam
Pit bull lab mix Tigger 10 1/2 years old. Doesn’t know he’s this old still runs like a young guy loves chasing his sticks no other toy will do. Want to feed his health food so he’s still around many years from now.”
Congrats, Pam!

The Review: My dog has been sick so I didn’t want to test new foods on him just yet, so I decided to pick up a bag for my cat. I’ve been looking for a new food anyway and my vet had actually recommended Iams to me. When MomCentral presented the opportunity to try Iams ProActive Health, I knew it was fate!
Then the coupon came and it was for dogs. As you may or may not know, my dog almost died recently of bladder stones (you can read the story here) so they’re on a special diet. I checked out all Iams foods and even contacted their customer service, who were SUPER helpful (unlike other companies who told me to ask my vet – my vet told me to ask the companies!) but they let me know they didn’t have an option that specifically addressed oxalate stones. They DID give me a suggestion of a diet that is bladder-friendly, but sadly it contained a few things that are specifically not good for the oxalate so I had to pass.
What to do? I have a coupon for a huge bag of food! My daughter to the rescue – her best friend has a lovely dog named Sasha who I could “use”!
I contacted her mom and she agreed to provide me with a review of the food, and I got to go spend time with her sweet dog!
I picked up Iams ProActive Health at a local discount store (it happens to be next to their house
but wondered what exactly “prebiotics” are and why they were so helpful. Once I’d lugged the bag to their house, I hopped on the internet to find out more.
What are prebiotics?
A PreBiotic is a natural ingredient that promotes healthy digestion. It does this by nourishing the good bacteria found in the digestive tract. The good bacteria crowd out the bad bacteria, promoting healthy digestion.
Sounds great, doesn’t it? Well, it gets better – Sasha INHALED the food! I mean, if she could have taken a bath in a giant tub of it, she would… although she would have eaten her way out! After she was done she continuously “nosed” me in the leg, begging for more. YAY! That’s one satisfied pup
So I definitely endorse this food – Iams customer support is wonderful, the food is healthy and nutritious, they really seem to be working to make their food better through innovations in health, and the dog loved it! It doesn’t get better than that

I have a 7 year old border collie who is now less active. This is partly because she is gaining weight so I am looking for nutitious food but lower fat.
May 1st, 2010 at 2:25 am
We’re adopting a 3 year old lab mix next week. She was rescued from an abusive situation and with some work has now been deemed ready for adoption. So far we’ve met her and have spent about 3 hours on the rescue place’s property with her alone. Next week she comes to our home for a 3 hour visit. It was love at first sight for my husband and me. So I’m sure she’ll be coming home with us for good on Friday. We just want the best for her to have a long, healthy, happy life in our home.
May 1st, 2010 at 4:49 am
I would feed it to my Black Lab (Wiley). She is now 10 years old and slowing down.
May 1st, 2010 at 1:00 pm
This will go to Shelby, a beautiful 5 yo German Shepherd. I’m looking for nutrition, nutrition, nutrition.

I’ve got an adorable 2 year old shihtzu named Bonsai. We are looking for nutrition and a bit of variety in his food as he tends to get bored quite easily.
May 1st, 2010 at 4:05 pm
I have a 6 year old male Weimeraner. He is a handful but we adore him anyways. I am looking for excellent nutrition and lamb and rice formula.
May 1st, 2010 at 4:45 pm
We’ve got 3 Great Danes and they eat alot. Our oldest dog is now 8 and 1/2, which is very old for such a big dog. We like to feed them great food such as Iam to keep them in shape.

My sweetie Tessa is an 8-year-old maltipoopoo, my constant companion, loved by many. So, as with all of us animal lovers, I want her to live a long, happy, and healthy life. This past fall I almost lost her to a sudden liver failure, but through 24-hour nursing over a couple of months, she is a “new dog” (my vet’s assessment). I am very careful about the food and treats she eats while her readings are still a little bit off, so that combined with the fact that my last dog had a very sensitive digestive system and Iams was the only food he could eat, plus your story, I am quite intrigued about this food.
May 2nd, 2010 at 5:44 pm
I have a 7 year scotty that needs a boost to his daily diet
May 2nd, 2010 at 5:52 pm
We have two dogs. Ginger is 9, loving but slowing down in her later years. Minnie is around 5, loving and can run like the wind. When we are looking for a new family member we look for medium sized dogs who currently live in a shelter and need a home. We just hang out with all the dogs and see who comes to us.
May 2nd, 2010 at 5:53 pm

WallE is my Bichon Frise! He is 18 months old and the best dog ever!!
When we first got him I had to give him a “butt bath” every time he went #2. I’m pretty sure it was because of the dog food that we were feeding him because when I switched it ended. This has happened with 2 dog foods so far. So I have to try out the food before I go buying a bag of it. I know WallE likes Iams and it works well with his bowels! Thanks!!
May 3rd, 2010 at 2:15 pm

May 4th, 2010 at 9:22 am
Our puppy is a four pound terrier. He is so small. We want him to have good nutrition without overfeeding him. Iams is a quality without quantity food to give him his proper portion.
May 4th, 2010 at 9:47 am
I have 3 doggies, Lily-3 year old chocolate lab, Bella-will be 1 on May 16th & is a mixed breed, and Bear-is a 4 month old black lab (he probably will not be eating this though) but if my other dogs like it then he will eventually be. I look for food that provides energy & nutrients.

I have a 13 year old chow, Ch’iang, who is suffering from what the vet thinks is either bladder or prostate cancer and it is affecting his control of his urine and he often wets himself during sleep and also when he gets anxious. There is also blood in his urine now and the tumour is affecting his bowel so he is starting to have some issues there also. He shows no sign of pain, only disgust at his condition. He’s always been a very proud dog and he doesn’t like the fact that he now has ‘accidents’ in the house. I have installed dog doors for his convenience, but he can’t always get outside in time. He has been off his food for a while now, so I’ve been challenged to find things he’ll eat. He’s on a chicken & tripe diet currently. He has lost a fair bit of weight now, and you can feel each rib and vertebrae. He still loves to go out for walks and still thinks he can hunt beavers. His attitude is the only thing keeping him going. And me. If I win this prize I would hope it would be of some benefit to my Ch’iang. Thanks.
